Meet Watti: The Smart Desk Lamp That Adapts to Your Needs
By Editor • August 22, 2026 • 1 min read
In a world where desk lamps have remained largely unchanged since Edison's time, Watti is a groundbreaking innovation that redefines how we interact with light. Designed by Nikolay Tyulkin, this robotic lamp features a sophisticated arm with five motorized axes that allow it to move autonomously, mimicking the elegance of traditional designs while offering unparalleled functionality.
At the heart of Watti's operation is a Raspberry Pi 5, which coordinates its movements, and a unique camera system that captures color and depth data. This setup enables the lamp to perceive its environment in three dimensions, setting it apart from conventional lighting solutions. Although Watti's current capabilities allow it to see your workspace, it is still developing features like hand tracking and automatic illumination that will enable it to respond to your needs intuitively.
Watti’s programmable nature is enhanced by Watti Studio, a browser-based editor where users can design lighting scenes without needing the physical lamp. Once a scene is finalized, it can be transferred to the lamp for local execution.
Currently, this ambitious prototype is powered by a 24 V, 10 A supply, with an estimated parts cost of around $700. Plans are in place to release hardware files and instructions, paving the way for enthusiasts to build their own version of this innovative lamp.
