Microsoft Phases Out Mico as Copilot Evolves

Microsoft has announced the retirement of Mico, the animated avatar introduced in Copilot’s voice mode less than a year ago. The emotive yellow blob will transition to the Learn Live platform, where it can engage more dynamically.
Initially launched in October 2022, Mico was designed to give Copilot a distinct identity, responding to users with real-time facial expressions and animations. As Microsoft refines its AI offerings, Mico joins the ranks of other retired virtual assistants, such as Clippy and Cortana.
These changes coincide with a broader strategy to integrate Copilot into Microsoft 365 applications under new leadership.
