Major League Soccer is set to transform its playoff system starting in 2028, according to multiple sources. The new format may feature a double-elimination structure and include up to 20 teams, moving away from the traditional conference divisions to a five-division setup.
The playoffs are proposed to commence in late April, culminating in the MLS Cup on May 21, 2028, aligning with a shift to a fall-to-spring season.
