The Monterey Car Week 2026, which concluded on August 16, left a lasting impression with its record-breaking sales and stunning displays of automotive artistry. The focal point of the week, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, witnessed auctions totaling an astounding $755.6 million as collectors vied for some of the rarest cars in existence.
Among the highlights was the sale of a 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, fetching an impressive $42.905 million, a testament to its rarity and historical significance, with only six ever produced. Furthermore, the debut of the first-ever Ferrari Luce commanded a staggering $40 million at RM Sotheby's, marking it as both the most expensive EV sold and the highest-ever price for a brand-new car.
The week was not only about sales but also a vibrant social gathering for car enthusiasts, designers, and collectors, showcasing the luxury automotive sector's blend of innovation and desire. Premium events like The Quail brought together high-end brands, with Cadillac unveiling its all-electric ESCALADE IQ, which offers customers extensive customization options. Executive design director Dominic Najafi emphasized the brand's commitment to creating a distinctively American luxury experience.
In addition to Cadillac, Lamborghini introduced the Revuelto SV, boasting a lightweight design and remarkable speed, reaching up to 345 kilometers per hour. RUF also made waves with its Ehra performance car, named in honor of racing legend Phil Hill, while Audi showcased its futuristic Nuvolari supercar, which made its U.S. debut. The Nuvolari, with its sleek titanium body, promises a thrilling experience, capable of speeds nearing 349 kilometers per hour.
The Concours d’Elegance itself featured 218 cars, culminating in a competition that crowned a 1935 Duesenberg SSJ Special Speedster, once owned by Hollywood icon Clark Gable, as Best in Show. This remarkable event encapsulated the essence of American luxury and automotive history, leaving attendees with unforgettable memories of a week dedicated to the love of cars.
