Naked Assault on Ambulance Results in Suspended Sentence for WA Man

A man in Western Australia has narrowly avoided additional jail time following a bizarre and violent incident involving a naked assault on an ambulance. Brian Charles Parfitt, 26, was handed a suspended prison sentence and fined $100 after he headbutted the ambulance's windshield, causing significant damage and distress to the paramedics inside.

The incident occurred on December 7, 2022, in Boulder, approximately 600km east of Perth, where Parfitt, reportedly in the midst of a mental health crisis, was seen behaving erratically. He attempted to climb onto two ambulances, ultimately smashing his head through a windshield before crawling into the vehicle.

Paramedics fled to safety as Parfitt threatened bystanders with scissors taken from the ambulance. His actions resulted in $4,000 worth of damage. In court, prosecutors argued for an immediate jail term, citing his lengthy criminal history and previous prison release just months prior. However, Magistrate Donna Webb took into account Parfitt's mental health issues and the 261 days he had already spent in custody.

While his defense highlighted efforts for rehabilitation and support from family, Webb warned that this suspended sentence represented a crucial opportunity for Parfitt to reform. She urged him to remain in Perth following his release to facilitate access to necessary support services.

This alarming event comes amid a troubling trend of increasing violence against paramedics in Western Australia, with reports indicating an 11.9% rise in such incidents in 2025. One paramedic involved in the incident shared her fear for her safety, underscoring the urgent need for measures to protect emergency service workers.
