NDIS Takes Strong Stand Against Fraud with Record Bans

The federal government has reported an unprecedented number of individuals, referred to as "shonks," banned from the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) this year. Minister for the NDIS, Jenny McAllister, discussed the crackdown on fraud during a recent appearance on ABC's Radio National Breakfast.

McAllister revealed that between April and June alone, the NDIS Quality and Standards Commission issued 111 banning orders. Additionally, approximately 450 providers had their registrations revoked, highlighting the government’s commitment to integrity within the scheme.

In her remarks, McAllister expressed willingness to collaborate with the Coalition to enhance measures against fraud. "If there are measures that we can introduce that will further strengthen the ability of the National Disability Insurance Agency to take on fraudsters, we are open to that conversation," she stated. As negotiations continue, the government is optimistic about securing bipartisan support for its proposed reforms.
