Nike has unveiled an exciting new collaboration with the beloved anime and manga series One Piece, transforming the mythical Devil Fruits into stylish sneakers. The collection, which features the iconic Air Max Plus, combines athletic design with elements from the One Piece universe, appealing to both sneaker enthusiasts and fans of the series.
Devil Fruits, known for granting extraordinary powers at the cost of the user's ability to swim, have been a central theme in One Piece since its inception in 1997. The new sneaker line draws inspiration from three specific fruits, with each colorway representing a different character's abilities. The Gomu Gomu no Mi, consumed by the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, is showcased in a purple-dominant design, symbolizing his rubber-like stretching powers.
In addition to the Gomu Gomu no Mi, the collection includes the Ope Ope no Mi, associated with Trafalgar Law, featuring a striking red and green palette, and the Mera Mera no Mi, which boasts a vibrant orange hue, reminiscent of Luffy's brother Portgas D. Ace. Each sneaker is designed with TPU-textured uppers and unique contrasting details.
To complement the footwear, the collaboration also offers jerseys, caps, and T-shirts adorned with One Piece manga illustrations, all reimagined in classic Nike advertising style. A special vest humorously reflects the consequence of consuming a Devil Fruit, stating, "hated by the sea, unable to swim." This attention to detail is sure to resonate with hardcore fans.
This global release kicks off with pop-up events, starting in Tokyo on September 4, followed by launches in cities like Seoul and Hong Kong. The sneakers are priced at $180 and are set to launch on SNKRS on September 25.
