Nordic Football Associations Demand Change Amidst Infantino's Leadership Crisis

In a striking unified stance, the six Nordic football associations have expressed their discontent with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, calling for significant reforms within the organization. During a recent meeting in Helsinki, representatives from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and the Faroe Islands declared they no longer have confidence in Infantino’s leadership.
The Nordic associations echo demands for his resignation, which have been voiced by three major football confederations: UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF. They are particularly concerned about Infantino's now-abandoned proposal to sell stakes in FIFA events to private equity investors, urging for an independent investigation into the matter.
“We expect FIFA to provide binding guarantees that governance or competitions will never be opened to private ownership again,” the statement read. The associations further support a comprehensive review of FIFA's governance structure to ensure accountability and transparency, following the reform program initiated in 2016.
As Infantino seeks re-election for a fourth term in 2024, he faces mounting pressure from multiple footballing bodies, including calls for a potential vote of no confidence.
