Colombian footballer Jhon Arias has stepped up to support his hometown, Quibdó, which was devastated by a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the region, claiming over 200 lives.

Arias announced that he is sending a plane filled with medical supplies and healthcare professionals to assist those affected. "We have allocated our own resources for this mission," he stated, highlighting the urgent need for medical aid in the region.

In a heartfelt video with his wife, Alejandra Ayala, Arias expressed condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the gravity of the destruction. The couple has also set up two bank accounts to collect donations, one in Colombia and another in Brazil, to further assist the recovery efforts.

"The Chocó is a very isolated department, lacking potable water and facing frequent road closures. We can all contribute to alleviate this sad situation," Ayala remarked. Arias urged his followers to unite in the face of this tragedy, asserting, "We are capable of overcoming adversity together." The earthquake occurred on Monday morning, with its epicenter located near San José del Palmar.
