Pavilion of the Future: Aulets Arquitectes Innovates with Local Materials in Mallorca

In a striking blend of raw materials and modern design, Aulets Arquitectes has unveiled the Futur Habitable Pavilion in Pollença, Mallorca, as part of the town's 2025 Futur Habitable program. This innovative structure features massive blocks of natural stone stacked as supports, crowned by a roof made of recycled wooden pallets.
The pavilion stands as a testament to the potential of local resources, with its rugged stone facade left intentionally unfinished, showcasing the character of each block. This approach not only celebrates the material's origins but also forms a stark contrast to the functional timber canopy above, which evokes the practicality of logistics while maintaining an architectural elegance.
Positioned along a pedestrian route, the pavilion invites visitors to pass through its stone columns, creating a gateway-like effect. Mature trees enhance the setting, adding a natural touch that softens the structure's bold geometry. The design encourages exploration and interaction, embodying Aulets' vision of a future built from readily available materials.
Recognized as a finalist in the 2026 FAD Awards for Ephemeral Interventions, the pavilion exemplifies how architecture can intertwine with the landscape, using large, minimally processed blocks and familiar timber components. Through this project, Aulets Arquitectes emphasizes the notion that the future of design can emerge from what is already accessible.
