Rare Comme des Garçons Collection Set for Auction in London

By Editor • August 17, 2026 • 1 min read

In a unique opportunity for fashion enthusiasts, a stunning collection of Comme des Garçons pieces, curated by collector Octavius La Rosa, will be auctioned on September 15 in London. La Rosa, who has amassed approximately 4,000 items from the iconic brand, has handpicked 265 pieces for this sale, highlighting the range and depth of Rei Kawakubo's influential designs.

The auction features 18 lots dating back to the brand's inception in the 1970s, and includes standout pieces such as a black polyurethane raincoat, estimated to sell for £500 to £700, and a wool pantsuit from the 1982 "Pirates" collection, with an estimated value of £800 to £1,200. Other notable items include a vibrant multitartan ensemble from spring 2006 and a poignant design from the fall 2005 "Broken Bride" collection, which left audiences emotional.

According to Alex Baddeley, director at Kerry Taylor Auctions, La Rosa's deep understanding and passion for Comme des Garçons elevate this collection to museum-quality status. He noted that La Rosa's motivation goes beyond mere business; it is rooted in a genuine love for the fashion house's history.

La Rosa is parting with these prized pieces to support the growth of his Dot Comme business, which has been operating in Melbourne for 15 years. He plans to relocate to a larger space this September and has also opened a permanent location in Paris. He envisions future exhibitions and resources for fashion historians and designers.

The interest in the auction reflects a growing fascination with Japanese design, with Baddeley emphasizing how these vintage pieces maintain a fresh appeal. The auction is expected to attract significant bids, particularly for La Rosa's oldest items, as collectors seek to own a piece of fashion history.
