Rei Ami Shares Her Travel Essentials and Flight Experiences

Emerging K-pop sensation Rei Ami, known for her striking fashion choices and musical contributions to projects like KPop Demon Hunters, recently opened up about her travel habits and preferences during a casual Zoom chat with Condé Nast Traveler. While she dazzles on the red carpet with outfits like a feathered corset for the Grammys or a vibrant cherry-red fur ensemble, her packing routine is refreshingly practical.

Ami, who originally hails from South Korea and later moved to Maryland, revealed her packing strategies while gearing up for a summer trip to Paris. "Most of the outfits for events are coordinated with my stylist, Ayumi Perry," she explained. For her downtime in Paris, she prefers comfortable athleisure and sneakers to handle the heat.

Reflecting on her first flight experience, which occurred while emigrating to the U.S., she recounted a memorable moment: "I was having the time of my life… My sister was freaking out." Ami's first taste of luxury travel came later when she flew business class on Delta One for KPop Demon Hunters. She described the experience as "life-changing," highlighting the comfort of lay-flat seats that made her feel "so expensive and appreciated."

During flights, Ami has a meticulous routine. She arrives prepared with a collection of skincare items, masks for her face, hands, and feet, and even a selection of movies to enjoy. "As soon as I get in my seat, I do a whole setup of all my tools and goodies that I’m going to need throughout the flight," she explained. Her in-flight ritual includes a thorough skincare regimen, using hypochlorous spray, brushing her teeth, and applying light makeup before landing.

Ami's travel philosophy emphasizes wellness, particularly when it comes to staying hydrated and maintaining her vocal health. She carries Airborne, vitamin C, and other supplements, alongside Manuka honey throat sprays. "At the core, you’ve got to take care of your body if your voice is going to be okay," she noted.

When it comes to travel destinations, Ami favors tropical locales. "I am a tropical, put-me-in-the-water kind of girl," she said, enthusiastically mentioning Hawaii, Turks and Caicos, and the Bahamas as her preferred sandy getaways. Her ideal vacation includes lounging by the water, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Despite her busy schedule, which often places her in crowded urban environments, she finds solace in quieter retreats. Her recent trip to Catalina Island, for example, offered a refreshing escape. "We stayed in this gorgeous villa overlooking the ocean," she recalled, highlighting the tranquility of the location and its reminder of Italy.

Ami thrives on organization when traveling with groups, often taking charge of creating a loose itinerary to ensure she can incorporate her personal interests into the trip. "I like to get ahead and be in charge that way," she stated, welcoming collaborative input from her travel companions.

While she enjoys the thrill of travel, Ami also expressed her pet peeve about boarding procedures: "People who hover around the gate when it’s not their time to board… it just slows everything down." Her travel wishlist includes Madagascar, a destination she's fascinated by due to its wildlife and unique culture, stemming from her childhood admiration of the animated film.
