Michael Wright, celebrated for his powerful performances in classics like “The Five Heartbeats” and the sci-fi series “V,” has passed away at the age of 70. His wife, Susan Wright, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, expressing her profound sadness.

Wright, who succumbed to heart failure and complications from a degenerative neurological disease, died in Los Angeles on August 19. Born on April 30, 1956, in New York City, he graced both film and television with over 50 appearances, including iconic roles in “The Principal,” “Sugar Hill,” and HBO’s “Oz.”

In the 1991 musical “The Five Heartbeats,” he portrayed Eddie King Jr., a character whose struggle with addiction resonated deeply with audiences. Susan Wright remembered her husband not only as an artist but as a loving father and grandfather. “To those of us who loved him personally, he was so much more than the roles the world knew him for,” she stated.

Wright’s legacy continues through his memorable characters, and his family plans to honor him in the days to come. In a touching conclusion to her tribute, Susan shared, “Your love will live even longer in the hearts of those who knew you best.”
