Republicans Appeal to Supreme Court for Lower TV Ad Rates

The Republican campaign committees are taking their fight for reduced election ad prices to the Supreme Court. They seek a ruling that would require broadcast TV stations to extend their lowest advertising rates to political parties and joint fundraising committees.

Currently, US law mandates that broadcasters provide individual candidates the "lowest unit charge" during the critical 60 days leading up to elections. However, a recent ruling from the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals determined that the FCC's directive for broader discounts violates existing law.
