In Voula, along the picturesque Athenian Riviera, balconies transcend their traditional role, becoming integral to daily life and architectural expression. Rêve en suspens, a residential project by 314 Architecture Studio, embodies this ethos, presenting a building that appears to blossom rather than merely stand.

Completed in 2022, Rêve en suspens reimagines the conventional façade with its flowing, petal-like balconies that wrap around the structure. This design approach not only enhances the building’s aesthetic appeal but also serves practical purposes: the balconies provide shade, privacy, and expansive outdoor living spaces, all while maintaining views of the stunning coastal landscape.

The building’s innovative design responds to environmental factors, with generous balcony projections shielding interiors from the sun’s heat during peak hours. These features create a harmonious balance between privacy and openness, allowing residents to enjoy the Mediterranean breeze while feeling sheltered.

Architecturally, the project showcases a reinforced-concrete core supported by intricate steel substructures, allowing for the dramatic cantilevered balcony designs. The predominantly white material palette enhances the structure’s fluidity, allowing light and shadow to play across its surfaces, transforming the building throughout the day.

At ground level, a perforated metal enclosure provides a delicate balance of transparency and privacy, guiding residents from the street into their homes.
