Revolutionizing Living Spaces: When Cars Become Part of Home Design

By Editor • August 23, 2026 • 2 min read

In a striking fusion of luxury living and automotive innovation, the Porsche Design Tower in Miami showcases a groundbreaking concept where cars and homes intersect like never before. Completed in 2017, this 60-story marvel features glass elevators, or Dezervator lifts, that transport vehicles directly to private parking spaces adjacent to residents' apartments. This unique arrangement transforms traditional parking into an integral aspect of domestic life, elevating the status of the automobile within the home.

While the Porsche tower is a prime example, it is not alone in this trend. Similar concepts emerged earlier, such as 200 Eleventh Avenue in New York and Hamilton Scotts in Singapore, both featuring car elevators that blend living spaces with vehicle storage. However, the Porsche Design Tower redefined this idea by tying it directly to a luxury brand, creating a new architectural identity that emphasizes the relationship between car and home.

The trend continues with the development of Bentley Residences in Miami, which is set to open in 2027. This upcoming 61-story building will utilize four Dezervator lifts to provide private garages capable of holding up to four vehicles, further cementing the concept of integrating automobiles into living environments. As the infrastructure designed for luxury vehicles crosses over between brands, it signals a shift towards a new typology of residential architecture where parking is no longer relegated to basements.

Meanwhile, in Bangkok, the Porsche Design Tower takes this integration even further with its innovative design featuring customizable garages and a spiraling vehicle ramp. This architectural approach goes beyond mere aesthetics, incorporating functional elements inspired by automotive engineering into the fabric of living spaces.

In Miami, projects like Aston Martin Residences and Pagani Residences adopt a more tactile approach, infusing residential interiors with materials and design elements typically found in high-end automobiles. These developments highlight a growing trend where the textures and aesthetics of car design influence home interiors, blurring the lines between the two worlds.

Expanding the concept even further, Tierra Viva in Spain offers villas equipped with vehicle lifts that transport cars vertically through the home, allowing them to be displayed prominently beside living areas. This design philosophy repositions the garage from a peripheral space to a focal point of domestic life.

Lastly, developments like Mercedes-Benz Places in Miami and Binghatti City in Dubai illustrate the emerging trend of incorporating automotive design languages into large-scale urban projects. Here, the connection to the car becomes more abstract, yet still influences the overall aesthetic and layout of residential and communal spaces.

As luxury residences continue to redefine the relationship between living spaces and automobiles, the once clear boundaries separating homes from garages are beginning to dissolve. The car is no longer just a mode of transport; it is becoming a vital part of the living experience, reshaping our understanding of home design.
