Shailene Woodley Reflects on Heartbreak Over Cut Spider-Man Role

Shailene Woodley recently shared her deep disappointment regarding her role in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," which was ultimately cut from the film. During a "SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations" interview, she revealed that she only learned a year after filming that her scenes alongside Andrew Garfield would not make it to the final version released in May 2014.

Woodley, who was thrilled to be cast as the iconic Mary Jane Watson, described the role as a lifelong dream, emphasizing her love for Spider-Man as a character. "This is so exciting," she recalled feeling after receiving the casting news.

Despite filming several scenes, Woodley was informed the character would be excluded to avoid complicating the plot surrounding Gwen Stacy, portrayed by Emma Stone. She recounted the producers’ reasoning: wait for the dramatic turn of events before introducing Mary Jane, but ultimately, the sequel never materialized. Producer Matt Tolmach later noted the project had become too ambitious, leading to the decision to omit her character.
