Shake-Up Expected for State Duma’s International Affairs Committee

United Russia is poised to oust Leonid Slutsky from his role as head of the State Duma’s international affairs committee, according to sources familiar with the situation. The ruling party aims to reclaim control over this influential committee in the upcoming Duma session.
Potential successors include Pyotr Tolstoy, the current deputy speaker from United Russia, and Vyacheslav Nikonov, the first deputy chair of the committee, though Nikonov's chances appear slimmer.
Slutsky, who has led the committee since 2016, will retain his position as head of the LDPR faction. The final committee structure will be determined after the elections set for September 18-20, 2023.
Despite facing harassment allegations in 2018, which a parliamentary ethics commission dismissed, Slutsky has maintained his position in the Duma.
