Spain Seeks EU Aid Amid Migrant Crisis in Ceuta

By Editor • August 28, 2026 • 1 min read

In a bid to manage the ongoing migrant situation in Ceuta, Spain has requested assistance from the EU's Frontex agency to process around 5,000 migrants who entered the territory a month ago. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska reached out to Beate Gminder of the European Commission, also seeking 10 additional Frontex officers for expedited screening.

Currently, between 5,000 and 8,000 migrants remain in Ceuta, with tensions escalating as local protests demand their departure. Violence erupted recently, resulting in the arrest of twelve migrants after they attacked an army vehicle.
