Nashville Airport May Honor Dolly Parton with Name Change

By Editor • August 28, 2026 • 1 min read

The Nashville International Airport is poised for a potential name change to honor the late Dolly Parton, as announced by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee. This proposal comes just three days after the beloved country music star's passing.

Governor Lee emphasized Parton's deep connection to Tennessee, stating, "Dolly Parton’s extraordinary life is forever woven into the fabric of our state." He added that renaming the airport would be a fitting tribute to Parton, welcoming travelers with her legacy of music and philanthropy.

Support for the name change has been voiced by Parton’s team, and Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell has expressed his enthusiasm on social media, highlighting Parton’s plans for a hotel and museum in Nashville. The airport's current naming policy and Lee’s proposal will be discussed at a Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority meeting on September 17.
