Summer Indulgence May Cause 'Metabolic Jet Lag'

By Editor • August 19, 2026 • 1 min read

As summer unfolds, our schedules often morph into a free-for-all, with meals becoming sporadic and indulgent. Late-night desserts and leisurely lunches can lead to a feeling of disarray in our bodies, leaving us bloated and fatigued.

Dietitian Samia Rhalem from Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay highlights that such seasonal habits may result in temporary health imbalances, including weight gain, blood sugar fluctuations, and digestive issues. Fortunately, these effects can be reversed with a return to balanced eating.

Dr. Isabel Castaño, a gynecologist specializing in hormonal health, notes that our appetite aligns with a circadian rhythm regulated by light. Irregular meal times can disrupt this natural synchronization, causing what nutritionists term “metabolic jet lag.”

Neolife nutritionist Meritxell Massons suggests time-restricted eating (TRE), which confines meals to an eight- to twelve-hour window, as an effective strategy to re-align our internal clock. She emphasizes the importance of consistency in meal timing to support overall health.

While summer indulgences are enjoyable, returning to regular meal patterns can help restore your body’s natural rhythm.
