PENGHU, TAIWAN – In the early hours of the morning, Taiwanese soldiers on an island in the Taiwan Strait prepared for a possible conflict with China. Earlier this month, they meticulously loaded 105-millimeter shells into tanks, standing ready for orders.
This training is crucial as the Penghu Islands, a group of 90 islands located approximately 50 kilometers from Taiwan's southwestern coast, are deemed essential in Taiwan's defense strategy. If an attack from Beijing occurs, these islands will likely be among the first targets, as indicated by military experts and senior security officials.
