Teen Sentenced for Fatal Crash Following Violent Assault

By Editor • August 18, 2026 • 1 min read

A teenager has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison for causing the death of his friend in a tragic car accident, just months after brutally assaulting another man.

In February 2025, the 16-year-old assaulted Valentino Arop outside a Flemington housing tower, leaving Arop with severe lifelong disabilities due to a brain injury. The judge described the assault as "truly shocking," noting that the teenager attacked Arop without provocation and repeatedly kicked him while he lay helpless on the ground.

Only three months after the violent incident, the teenager was on probation for unrelated crimes when he drove a stolen SUV while intoxicated, running a red light and crashing in Tarneit. His passenger, 16-year-old Kevin Olenga, suffered fatal injuries from the crash.

Kevin's mother, Bora Mireye, expressed her heartbreak, stating she fears accepting her son's loss and cries every night. The court noted that the teenager's past serious injuries from a previous crash had not deterred him from reckless behavior.

After pleading guilty to charges including culpable driving and causing serious injury, the court mandated that he serve a minimum of four-and-a-half years before being eligible for parole, with his sentence set to end in March 2034.
