Thunderstorm Alerts Issued Across the UK as Heavy Rain Approaches

The Met Office has issued yellow thunderstorm warnings across large areas of England and Wales, anticipating disruptive weather on Wednesday. The warnings, effective from 3am to 10pm, cover regions including the west and east Midlands, parts of Wales, and various areas in the north and south of England.
Forecasters predict a significant band of heavy rain and thunderstorms moving northward, with potential downpours of 20-30 mm in less than an hour. In some locations, rainfall could reach 40-50 mm over two to three hours, raising the risk of surface water flooding.
Deputy chief forecaster Mark Sidaway noted that the unsettled conditions stem from warmer, humid air advancing across the UK. While the start of the week may offer dry, warm weather, a shift toward heavy rain and thunderstorms is expected as the week progresses.
As conditions worsen, homes and businesses may face flooding, and the risk of lightning strikes and hail could result in damage. Transport services, including trains and buses, are likely to experience delays and cancellations. The Environment Agency warns that flooding from surface water could affect roads and properties, with road closures anticipated.
