Tragedy Strikes as Officer Falls in South Carolina Park Shooting

A tragic shooting incident at a park in Columbia, South Carolina, has resulted in the death of a police officer and left another injured. The Columbia Police Department confirmed that the altercation erupted as two officers responded to a domestic dispute on Saturday evening, August 29, 2026.

Columbia Police Chief W H 'Skip' Holbrook announced that the fallen officer, aged 29 and with two years of service, is survived by his wife and two young children. Expressing deep sorrow, he stated, 'Our hearts are broken this evening.'

The second officer is reportedly in stable condition following a “gunfight” with the suspect, a 33-year-old man known for a lengthy criminal history. Chief Holbrook indicated that more updates would follow as the department copes with this tragic loss.
