Tragic House Fire Claims Young Life in Swansea Heads

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Swansea Heads, Lake Macquarie, where a five-year-old girl lost her life in a devastating house fire. Emergency services were alerted to the blaze on Northcote Avenue around 1:30 PM on Thursday.

Inside the home were two young girls and an elderly woman, aged 87. Despite the valiant efforts of first responders, one of the girls could not be revived after being found during a search. The elderly woman was hospitalized in serious condition due to burns sustained in the fire.

In a remarkable display of courage, a 37-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy attempted to rescue the victims. The man managed to break through the front door to help, while the teenager suffered injuries while trying to enter through a window. Lake Macquarie Police District’s Acting Superintendent Lisa Jones commended their selfless actions, emphasizing the community spirit displayed during this tragic event.
