A devastating landslide occurred in Conakry, Guinea, on August 23, 2026, resulting in the deaths of at least 22 individuals. The incident took place at the Dar Es Salam landfill, where heavy rains triggered a collapse of refuse onto nearby homes.

Rescue efforts are underway, with six people reported seriously injured. The landslide struck around 3 a.m., burying shacks in the vicinity.

Officials had announced plans to close the landfill site on the same day, as noted by Lt. Col. Balde Mamadou Bailo, a sanitation officer with the Military Engineering Battalion.
