Tragic Shooting Claims Officer's Life in South Carolina Park

A police officer was killed and another injured during a confrontation in a South Carolina park on Saturday, following a domestic dispute call. Police Chief W.H. 'Skip' Holbrook confirmed that the deceased officer, 29-year-old Christopher DeLong, had served with the department for two years and is survived by his wife and two children.

During a somber news conference, Chief Holbrook expressed his heartbreak over the incident, while DeLong's wife described her sorrow on social media, calling her situation a 'nightmare.'

The altercation began when a woman reported that a man, under a restraining order, was causing damage at her home. Officer DeLong arrived shortly after the call, but the suspect had already fled. Following a description provided by the woman, DeLong encountered the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Adam Tyler Dowdy, who had a significant criminal history.

Backup Officer David Dymock arrived on the scene, but moments later radioed that shots had been fired, resulting in injuries to both officers and the death of the suspect. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is currently investigating the shooting.
