Trump Backs Federal Film Tax Credit Amid Criticism of Hollywood

In a recent post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump expressed his support for a federal film tax credit, a move that many in Hollywood have long advocated for. While his message was interspersed with critiques of Hollywood and California, Trump urged a bipartisan effort to legislate a tax incentive aimed at revitalizing the film and entertainment industry in the U.S.

“I am going to suggest that Republicans and Democrats get together and immediately craft legislation to save the Movie, Television, and Entertainment Business in America,” Trump stated. His proposal aims to create jobs and bolster film production within the country as it faces stiff competition from international markets.

Charles Rivkin, head of the Motion Pictures Association, voiced his approval of Trump’s initiative, highlighting its potential to enhance local economies and make the U.S. a more attractive place for film production. “A federal incentive would be a landmark step toward bringing more production to local communities in all 50 states,” Rivkin remarked.

Trump’s endorsement reportedly stemmed from discussions with actor Jon Voight, who has been vocal about the need for such an incentive. While various politicians, including California Senator Adam Schiff, have pushed for similar measures, many in the industry have been waiting for Trump’s lead to advance the proposal further.
