Trump Praises New Defence Pact Among Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan

By Editor • August 17, 2026 • 1 min read

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his enthusiasm on August 16, 2026, over the recent formation of a defence agreement involving Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan. He shared his thoughts via his Truth Social platform, highlighting the significance of the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement signed on August 7.

"Very happy to see that Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan have recently, and finally, signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement," Trump stated. He emphasized that this pact represents a crucial step towards unity in the Middle East, enabling nations to better defend themselves amidst ongoing regional tensions.

This three-nation agreement comes at a time when the U.S. and Iran are engaged in escalating conflict, with violence spilling over into nearby territories, including attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The situation remains precarious, as Iran's military recently announced a bounty of $30,000 for the capture or killing of U.S. soldiers, further inflaming hostilities.

Compounding these tensions, maritime activity in the strategic Strait of Hormuz has seen a significant slowdown in tanker traffic over the weekend, with only five vessels reported to transit on Saturday. This decline follows recent assaults on oil tankers, indicating a more extensive crisis in the region's shipping dynamics.

Despite these developments, oil prices have remained relatively stable, with Brent crude futures rising slightly and U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures experiencing a minor dip.
