Turkey Seeks Arrest Warrant for Netanyahu Over Gaza Flotilla Incident

By Editor • August 21, 2026 • 1 min read

In a dramatic escalation of tensions between Turkey and Israel, the Turkish government has issued an international arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, alleging his involvement in 'genocide' related to the interception of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla.

Turkey's Justice Minister announced the warrant on Friday, reflecting the country's heightened criticism of Israel's military actions in Gaza, which have intensified following the attacks by Hamas on October 7, 2023. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been vocal in his accusations against Netanyahu, labeling his actions as genocidal.

The flotilla, containing around 430 activists, was intercepted by Israeli forces in May, an event that has now become a focal point for Turkey's condemnation of Israel's military operations.
