Turkiye Raises Alarm with Ukraine Over Black Sea Vessel Attacks

In a significant diplomatic gesture, Turkiye summoned Ukraine’s ambassador, Naryman Dzhelialo, to address growing safety concerns following recent attacks on Turkish vessels in the Black Sea.
On Saturday, Turkish officials expressed their apprehensions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after two incidents involving the Turkish-operated ships Lider Bordo Mavi and Lider Kocatepe. The former was struck by a projectile near Tuapse, Russia, while the latter was targeted by a drone during a rescue operation.
Turkiye has been vocal about the urgent need to protect civilian navigation and maritime safety in the Black Sea, a crucial route for its commercial vessels. Since the onset of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022, risks have escalated, with several Turkish ships reportedly hit by Ukrainian drone attacks. In early October, an incident near Novorossiysk resulted in injuries to three crew members.
