V&A Honors Freddie Mercury's Legacy with Fashion Exhibition

The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is set to honor Freddie Mercury's legacy with a free exhibition titled 'Splendid Things,' in celebration of the late singer's 80th birthday. This showcase features eight iconic outfits that highlight Mercury's distinctive style throughout the Seventies and Eighties.

Curated with the help of Mary Austin, Mercury's long-time friend and former fiancée, the exhibition includes memorable costumes such as the monochrome outfit from Queen's debut album cover and the striking 'Mercury Wing' catsuit from the 'Bohemian Rhapsody' video. It will also display the crown and cloak from his final performance in 1986.

Austin emphasizes the significance of Mercury's clothing, stating, 'His costumes were essential to his performances and creative vision.' The exhibition runs from October 24, 2026, to January 17, 2027, across the V&A’s permanent galleries.
