Wendy's is under fire after a Chicago customer, Roxie Ellis Douglas, filed a lawsuit claiming she fell ill from a contaminated meal. The 68-year-old alleges that a double cheeseburger and baked potato ordered via DoorDash were tainted with Campylobacter, leading to serious health issues.
Douglas's medical expenses have soared to approximately $93,000 due to treatments for acute infectious colitis and gastroenteritis, prompting her to demand over $50,000 in damages from the fast food chain.
She accuses the Wendy's location at 8645 S. Stony Island Ave. of neglecting food safety procedures and failing to maintain kitchen cleanliness. Despite the severity of the claims, Wendy's has yet to issue a public response but has requested a jury trial and a venue change from Cook County Circuit Court to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
