Wright Urges Arsenal to Show More Respect for Martinelli Amid Transfer Talks

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has expressed concern over the treatment of Gabriel Martinelli by his club, suggesting he deserves better amid ongoing discussions about his future. Martinelli, a key player last season with 11 goals in 53 appearances, was notably absent from Arsenal's opening league match against Coventry, which they won 3-0.
The Brazilian winger, who has been with Arsenal since 2019, was also left out of the Community Shield victory over Manchester City. Reports indicate that Arsenal is open to offers for the 25-year-old, which has raised eyebrows among fans and former players alike.
“The way Martinelli is being treated at the moment, it really makes me feel uncomfortable,” Wright told Sky Sports. He added that while some might support the idea of moving Martinelli on, the approach should prioritize his dignity and clarity regarding his status within the team.
Despite the club's assertion that his exclusion is due to depth in the squad, with new signing Christos Tzolis performing well in his position, Wright believes Martinelli's contributions warrant more respect. He noted that the current situation could leave Martinelli feeling sidelined and uncertain about his role.
Arsenal is reportedly looking to make significant sales before the transfer window closes, with Martinelli viewed as a prime asset alongside Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira. Although he declined a move to Galatasaray, it’s clear he aims for a transfer to a top European club if he leaves.
Manager Mikel Arteta has acknowledged the challenges of player movement, emphasizing the need for honesty and transparency regarding such tough decisions.
