34 Arrested Following Fatal Gang Shooting in Overasselt

In a dramatic turn of events in Overasselt, eastern Netherlands, police have detained 34 suspects following a violent drug-related shootout that left a security guard dead and two officers injured. The incident occurred around 4 AM when a large group of masked assailants opened fire as law enforcement arrived to investigate suspicious activity.

Regional police chief Jolanda Aalbers described the scene as chaotic, with officers forced to rescue their injured colleagues amidst the gunfire. The deceased security guard was 51 years old, and the officers’ injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

Authorities seized multiple weapons and vehicles at the scene. Investigators believe the shooting is linked to ongoing conflicts within the criminal underworld, particularly involving notorious drug lord Jos Leijdekkers. Justice Minister David van Weel praised the police response and confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
