Africa's Wealthiest Eyes Massive Gains from Landmark IPO

By Editor • September 14, 2026 • 1 min read

In a groundbreaking move for the African financial landscape, Aliko Dangote, the continent's richest individual, is set to launch the largest initial public offering (IPO) in African history. The public offering of his Nigerian oil refinery business, Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, is expected to significantly boost his already substantial wealth.

As the IPO unfolds on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, projections suggest that Dangote's net worth could rise dramatically by $23 billion, bringing his total fortune to nearly $60 billion (£44 billion). Currently, his wealth is estimated at around $35 billion (£26 billion), meaning this IPO could result in a two-thirds increase in his fortune.

The flotation, scheduled for Monday, marks a pivotal moment not just for Dangote but also for the Nigerian economy and the broader African market, showcasing the potential for large-scale investments within the continent.
