In a surprising twist, artificial intelligence tokens are becoming a staple in everyday transactions across China, as businesses from banks to cafes leverage these digital assets to attract customers. Once a niche concept, AI tokens have now entered the mainstream, with companies offering them as rewards and incentives.
Innovative Payment Models
Chinese consumers are being introduced to AI tokens through various innovative payment models. For instance, in July, Moonshot AI unveiled a unique credit card in collaboration with the Agricultural Bank of China and American Express, allowing users to earn Kimi AI tokens with every purchase. Following this trend, China Merchants Bank launched its own credit card for AI developers, offering a staggering 1.8 billion tokens. Similarly, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank has also jumped on the bandwagon, providing substantial token subsidies for users of its AI services.
Telecom Companies Join the Fray
Telecom giants are not left behind in this evolving landscape. China Telecom has begun offering plans that mimic mobile data subscriptions, starting at just 9.9 yuan ($1.40) for 10 million tokens, while China Mobile and China Unicom have introduced their own competitive pricing for token packages. These plans are aimed at transforming traditional telecom services into AI computing solutions.
Restaurants and Cafes Offer AI Experiences
In a bid to enhance customer engagement, restaurants and cafes are also getting creative. Establishments like Beijing's AGI Bar reward patrons with unlimited access to AI computing power for purchasing drinks, while Jingu Yuan dumpling restaurant incentivizes diners with computing credits after their meals. These efforts highlight a growing trend of integrating AI tokens into the dining experience, further blurring the lines between technology and daily life.
