Argentina Set to Enhance Military Capabilities with US Black Hawk Helicopter Deal

The United States has taken a significant step towards bolstering Argentina's military capabilities by approving the potential sale of four UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters. This deal, valued at approximately $140 million, was officially communicated to Congress on September 10.

As part of the agreement, Argentina will not only receive the helicopters but also a comprehensive package that includes two T700-GE-701D engines, a range of equipment such as rescue hoists, cargo hooks, and advanced communication systems. The deal aims to enhance Argentina’s ability to tackle border security, combat transnational crime, and provide humanitarian assistance, aligning with US foreign policy interests in the region.

Sikorsky, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin based in Connecticut, is set to be the principal contractor for this transaction. The US State Department emphasized that this sale will not disrupt the military balance in South America nor negatively impact US defense readiness. US Ambassador to Argentina, Peter Lamelas, confirmed via social media that the helicopters will be delivered in refurbished condition over staggered timelines.
