Bill Simmons Admits to Proxy Betting Misstep on Podcast

By Editor • September 2, 2026 • 1 min read

In a recent episode of his podcast, Bill Simmons, the head of talk at Spotify, candidly confessed to using his daughter’s boyfriend to place proxy bets on Fanduel while in California, where such practices are illegal.

Simmons stated he was unaware of the proxy betting rules, which led to a flurry of attention after listeners highlighted his remarks. He humorously remarked that his daughter might have to break up with her boyfriend because of the situation, but reassured that they would stay together.

Fanduel, a key sponsor of Simmons' Ringer podcast network, responded swiftly to the revelation, voiding the bets and reporting the matter to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC), which is now investigating the issue. MGC spokesperson Thomas Mills confirmed they are reviewing Simmons' comments. While the outcome remains uncertain, Simmons appears remorseful and eager to move past the incident.
