Bitters End Secures Global Deals for 'In My Father’s Room' Ahead of Film Festivals

Bitters End has successfully negotiated international distribution deals for the poignant film 'In My Father’s Room' ahead of its world premiere at the prestigious San Sebastian Film Festival. The film, which is set to compete in the festival, has already captured the interest of several distributors across key markets.

Among the territories that have secured rights to the film are France, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Art House Films will distribute in France, while Jinjin Pictures takes on the Korean market. Sky Digi Entertainment has acquired the rights for Taiwan, and Edko Films will handle distribution in Hong Kong. With more negotiations ongoing, the film's reach is expected to expand further.

Eric Le Bot, president of Art House Films, praised the film's artistry, stating, "A truly beautiful film. I was struck by the compositions, the contrasts, and the precision of the framing." He highlighted its unique ability to blend various art forms with everyday life, calling it deeply moving in its assertion that art provides meaning to existence.

Directed by acclaimed novelist Maha Harada, 'In My Father’s Room' is adapted from her short story 'An Unnecessary Man'. It features a talented cast, including Aoi Yu, Ogata Issey, Nagayama Eita, and Watanabe Eri, with cinematography by Kitagawa Yoshio. The narrative follows Satomi, an art museum employee who discovers a room left by her deceased father, prompting a journey of reflection on his overlooked life.

Following its debut at San Sebastian, the film will also be showcased at the Busan International Film Festival. In addition to its international sales, Bitters End is set to handle its local release in Japan, scheduled for January 2027.
