Calvin Klein Collection Show Embraces Minimalism with Art by Walter De Maria

This season's Calvin Klein Collection runway showcased a striking return to minimalism, as creative director Veronica Leoni focused on six essential pieces that epitomize both the brand and women's wardrobes. Departing from menswear, Leoni’s collection highlighted the coat, shirt, tailored trousers, pencil skirt, and slip, all stripped down to their core elements.

Leoni drew inspiration from the principles of American Minimalism, emphasizing reduction and the relationship between design and the female form. 'My minimalism begins there, in the relation between design and a body, with nothing in between. Take everything away. What is left is desire,' she stated during the show, which marked her fourth as the brand's creative lead.

Set in the Terminal Warehouse, a historic freight hub in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood, the show featured curated sculptures by Walter De Maria, a renowned figure in American Minimalism. Curator Antwaun Sargent explained how De Maria's work, including pieces like Truth / Beauty and geometric sculptures, resonated with the themes of clarity and restraint that Calvin Klein embodies. 'There is a natural connection between the principles of American Minimalism and the design language of Calvin Klein,' Sargent noted, highlighting the dialogue between the art, fashion, and the architectural space.
