Jonathan Simkhai Unveils a Bold Blend of Vintage and Innovation for Spring 2027

By Editor • September 12, 2026 • 1 min read

Jonathan Simkhai showcased his Spring 2027 collection in a striking display at the Phillips auction house on Park Avenue, where he cleverly merged nostalgic design with modern innovation. The collection emphasizes the designer's commitment to exploring new materials while paying homage to the past.

Reviving the Past with a Modern Twist

Simkhai drew inspiration from the aesthetics of the '70s and '90s, reimagining classic styles using contemporary fabrics and innovative silhouettes. A standout feature is his use of a 'jelly-coated' denim, which transforms the traditional material into something fresh and glossy. "Familiar materials become less immediately recognizable as they are coated, fringed, combined, and reworked," the show notes explained, highlighting the designer's inventive approach.

Color and Craftsmanship in Harmony

The collection showcases a vibrant palette, balancing bold primary colors with elegant neutrals. When asked about his choices in color, Simkhai noted that they stemmed from his overall creative process rather than a deliberate strategy. However, two of the most breathtaking pieces were the custom three-dimensional guipure lace gowns, each featuring a complex design with 1.6 million stitches, creating a seamless and voluminous silhouette. "The artwork is kind of concealing the shape and the volume; it’s all embroidered as kind of a panel," he explained, emphasizing the intricate engineering behind these exquisite pieces.

Simkhai’s Spring 2027 collection stands as a testament to his dedication to craftsmanship, revealing a captivating interplay between innovation and tradition.
