China and India Seek Stronger Ties Amidst Ongoing Challenges

In a significant diplomatic development, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi has emphasized the need for India and China to forge stronger partnerships without regression. This statement comes in light of a recent meeting between the leaders of the two nations during the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi on September 12, 2026.
Wang Yi, who accompanied Chinese President Xi Jinping to the summit, reported that both leaders engaged in a thorough discussion covering strategic issues that shape the long-term future of their countries. He highlighted their agreement on the importance of viewing each other as partners rather than competitors. Wang noted, "Under the strategic guidance of the two countries’ leaders, China-India relations have gradually emerged from a low point, progressing from a ‘restart’ to a ‘renewed height.’"
Despite the positive dialogue, Wang expressed concerns about the need to maintain momentum in their relationship, urging India to take concrete actions to implement the consensus reached. He pointed out that the normalization of relations has been a challenging process, deserving careful nurturing. Furthermore, he stressed the need for resolving border issues within the context of their overall relationship, advocating for dialogue and cooperation as the primary approach moving forward.
