In a groundbreaking achievement, China’s Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) has released a monumental catalogue of neutral hydrogen, marking a significant shift in astronomical research.
The FAST All-Sky H I Survey (FASHI) has now taken the lead in mapping this essential gas, which serves as the building block for star and galaxy formation. This latest data release showcases 156,411 extragalactic sources, a staggering increase compared to previous surveys.
Previously, the US survey held the title for the most comprehensive catalogue, but FASHI's advancements now position it as the primary reference for researchers studying the cosmos. This second batch of data was unveiled this week, reinforcing FAST's pivotal role in expanding our understanding of the universe.
