Research conducted by Chinese scholars indicates that the country's military AI capabilities are not keeping pace with those of other nations, particularly in combat applications. Instead, these models are predominantly focused on support roles.
This study, affiliated with the Armed Police Force Shandong Corps and the Engineering University of People’s Armed Police, was published in July in the journal Defence Industry Conversion in China.
According to the paper, the current military AI technologies are primarily utilized in auxiliary fields rather than offensive operations, highlighting a significant gap in performance compared to international standards.
