By Editor • September 2, 2026 • 1 min read

In a troubling incident early Wednesday, September 2, 2026, two Turkish commercial ships collided off the coast of Istanbul in the Sea of Marmara. The Istanbul governor’s office reported that contact has been lost with the Tugberk Imamoglu, a bulk carrier headed for the Black Sea port of Karadenizeregli.

The other vessel, the Alsu, a chemical tanker en route to Aliaga, was also involved in the collision near Silivri around 3 a.m. (0000 GMT). Fortunately, no visible damage was reported on the Alsu.

Coast guard vessels and helicopters have been deployed for a search and rescue operation, as efforts continue to locate the Tugberk Imamoglu and its ten crew members.
