Cutwater Spirits: A High-Octane Rise to $1 Billion

By Editor • September 14, 2026 • 1 min read

Cutwater Spirits is rapidly making a name for itself in the alcohol industry, edging closer to the impressive milestone of $1 billion in annual sales. This growth has been fueled by an innovative approach to canned cocktails, which feature a robust lineup of vodka, tequila, whiskey, gin, and rum blends.

In a market where many companies are shifting focus towards non-alcoholic options, Cutwater stands out by offering high-alcohol content drinks. Each 12-ounce can boasts between 7 and 13 percent alcohol, with popular flavors like the Long Island Iced Tea containing over three times the alcohol of a standard Bud Light. This bold strategy has paid off, as Cutwater recently became the second-largest contributor to revenue growth for its parent company, Anheuser-Busch InBev, in the second quarter of this year.

A Rapid Ascent

The journey of Cutwater began as a side project for Yuseff Cherney, co-founder of Ballast Point Brewing, who started distilling spirits in 2007. After spinning off from Ballast Point following its sale in 2015, Cutwater was officially launched in 2016. AB InBev recognized its potential and acquired the brand in 2019, further accelerating its growth.

Social Media Buzz

Cutwater's potent concoctions have not gone unnoticed on social media, where users share their experiences with the brand's high-alcohol beverages. Comedian Loryn Powell gained significant attention after posting a TikTok video of herself testing her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) after consuming two cans, illustrating the significant effects of Cutwater’s offerings. Other TikTok users have echoed similar sentiments, joking about the strong effects and urging caution when purchasing the brand's products.
