DreamWorks Animation Remote Workers Approve Historic Union Contract

In a landmark decision, remote employees at DreamWorks Animation have overwhelmingly approved their first union contract with The Animation Guild. The vote, which wrapped up on August 21, saw 97 percent of the 108 eligible voters in favor of the agreement, with an impressive turnout of 83.3 percent.

This new contract ensures that remote workers outside of Southern California receive wage and working condition parity with their colleagues in Los Angeles. Key provisions include aligned minimum wage rates, workplace protections, and health and retirement benefits, mirroring those in The Animation Guild’s Master Agreement.

Anthony Holden, a DreamWorks story artist and member of the negotiating committee, hailed the contract as a significant win not just for remote artists but for the animation industry at large. He emphasized the importance of fair treatment and the ability to work under the same terms as their in-person counterparts, marking a crucial step toward industry-wide change.
