Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis Convicted for Role in Tupac Shakur’s Murder

Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 63, has been found guilty of orchestrating the murder of iconic rapper Tupac Shakur in 1996, marking a significant moment in one of music’s most infamous unsolved cases. The jury reached its verdict after approximately three hours of deliberation following a week-long trial in Las Vegas.

Davis was convicted of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, linked to his alleged involvement in a drive-by shooting that occurred on September 7, 1996. Prosecutors asserted that he not only arranged the attack but also provided the firearm used in the crime. The shooting, which took place while Shakur was stopped at a red light, resulted in his death six days later.

During the trial, prosecutor Binu Palal underscored the weight of circumstantial evidence and witness testimonies, emphasizing Davis’s public admissions of guilt over the years, including statements made in interviews and his memoir. “For nearly 18 years, Duane Davis has told the police, television, books, YouTube interviewers — anybody that will listen, he has told — he is responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur,” Palal stated.

In contrast, defense attorney Michael Sanft argued that Davis's confessions lacked substantive evidence, questioning the validity of claims made three decades later. Davis, who will remain in custody without bail until his sentencing on October 13, plans to appeal the verdict.
